Psychological Testing

Sometimes it can be helpful to get more detailed information about your personality traits, strengths, and weaknesses when identifying a psychiatric diagnosis or developing a treatment plan. Combined with a thorough diagnostic evaluation, psychological tests measure characteristic behaviors, emotions, and thoughts to provide a more detailed and nuanced picture of your psychological state. This information can help guide your treatment plant, so you can more quickly relieve your psychological symptoms and make progress toward your goals.

Reasons to consider psychological testing include:

Psychological Testing

  • Persistent difficulty maintaining relationships or jobs
  • Chronic feelings of emptiness
  • Trouble meeting your own expectations of those of others for reasons you can’t identify
  • Unexplained physical symptoms that crop up or get worse when you experience stress
  • Feeling like you don’t know who you are
  • Treatment resistant depression or anxiety
  • Feeling like everyone is against you or that you never fit in
  • Neediness, feeling like you can’t function or cope without someone to help you
  • Being too reliant on what others say or think
  • Chronic anger, getting angry easily, or difficulty controlling anger
  • Difficulty setting appropriate limits with people, then feeling exploited or resentful
  • Inability to pursue important goals
  • Family conflict or frequently falling out with friends
  • A history of many different psychiatric diagnoses over the years
  • Lack of empathy
  • Persistently acting against your own values and beliefs

If you are interested in this service, we’ll start with an initial evaluation, then I’ll provide you with questionnaires you can complete at home. Once you have completed the questionnaires, I will look at the findings, compare them to population norms, and interpret them using research based guidelines. Based on the results, I will identify areas to explore in more detail with you during a second meeting. I will then write up a report that you can have for your personal use or share with other mental/behavioral health providers, and we will meet to review the findings and treatment recommendations.

The fee for a full psychological evaluation with psychological testing is $550 to $775, depending on the number of tests administered and time required to review and interpret them. This includes a psychiatric diagnostic interview and testing that is billed by the hour. If you have already completed an initial evaluation/psychiatric diagnostic evaluation, the $300 fee will be applied to the total cost. Insurance may cover some of the costs of psychological testing, but your insurance company may have specific requirements for coverage.
